The quarry have a wonderful facility for making Tar Macadam. This plant is one of their more recent investments. I'm guessing that it's from the late 60's early 70's. Frankly it stinks, I've not broken into American parlance, it smells horrible. This plant is running 24x7 to keep tonnes of bitumen hot. It's a few hundred yards from a housing estate.  
This does smell awfull but possible much worse is the noise. This thing and the associated conveyor systems (from the 1950's) wakes us up at between 6:00am and 7:30am most mornings. The plant is running, you may be able to make out the dust coming off the conveyor behind the wall. I've got some recordings which I'll try and include on the site soon
